India vs West Indies 3rd ODI Highlights: Shai Hope’s ton helps WI hunt down 352 vs IND
West Indies beat India by five wickets in the dead rubber in New Chandigarh on Saturday.
· The Indian Express · JoinShai Hope’s unbeaten 162 powered West Indies to a five-wicket consolation win over India in the third and final ODI at the PCA International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh, chasing down 352 with 10 balls to spare. Hope’s fifth century against India, and his highest score in the format, overshadowed KL Rahul’s belligerent ton as the visitors kept Gill’s bowlers on the back foot from the start and took the chase away in the final overs.
KL Rahul’s 129 off 87 deliveries, an innings laced with 10 fours and 7 sixes, had earlier taken India past 350 after a poor start. Keemo Paul picked up Rohit Sharma for 92, while India captain Shubman Gill and talisman Virat Kohli both fell inside the first three overs. Gill, who had scored a century and a double century in the first two ODIs, was caught behind by Hope off Jaydon Seales in the third over, and Kohli was cleaned up by Seales for a golden duck the very next ball.

Gill had won the toss and elected to bat first. India handed an ODI debut to fast bowling all-rounder Anshul Kamboj, who was named as replacement for the injured pacer Prasidh Krishna. Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Kumar Reddy also made their way into the Indian playing XI. For the West Indies, Jewel Andrew came in for Keacy Carty. India had already sealed the series 2-0, having chased down 406 in the previous game, but Hope’s masterclass ensured the visitors signed off with a win.

Calm along with the storm: how Shubman Gill makes batting belligerence beautiful
Just 69 matches into his career, Shubman Gill has already compressed a lifetime of ODI batting into a timeline that now carries his hallmark.
Before the start of the West Indies series, Gill’s batting average (60.33) had already conquered the world. Over the next 241 balls and 369 minutes spent in the middle, it has leapt to 65.12. No batter has ever scored more runs at a higher average in the format. Virat Kohli and the great Aussie finisher, Michael Bevan are the only other men to have clocked a 60-plus average at a later stage in their careers.
Another intriguing feature heightens Gill’s efficiency. The kind that makes smashing a double century look like a meditative stroll by the Brahmaputra in Guwahati.
