However, a tricky surface subjected the vaunted top-order to a wobble, with Sooryavanshi holding steady with a quickfire cameo. After a flurry of wickets came wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan. Demoted to 5 in an expanded batting order, Kishan stood well above his peers on a devious batting surface, his aggression unfurling progressively. The left-hander cracked an unbeaten 80 as India put on a daunting 170-run target for Sri Lanka.

The chase spiralled out of control from the start as India’s bowlers combined to bundled out the Lankans for a paltry 45, their lowest-ever T20I total to seize the gold medal contest against Pakistan.

IND vs SL Live Score, Asian Games T20 semifinal: One-sided

In the end, a full-strength Indian side carried too much heft for the Sri Lankans to contend with. Despite the tricky surface on offer, the Sri Lankan batting offered no match to the challenge posed by the Indian. Credit goes to a mature hand played duly by Ishan Kishan. Amid the glut of wickets that fell early on in the Powerplay, Kishan absorbed the pressure adeptly before seeing himself through the innings, ensuring that India managed to put on a daunting total on the board.

IND vs SL Live Score, Asian Games T20 semifinal: Samson with the broadcasters

Sanju Samson: [On winning the gold medal] We will try our maximum. Whatever we can do, we will try our maximum. I think it's all over the internet. It's a known fact nowadays how strong Indian cricket has grown over the last so many years. So I think there has been some constant effort. Definitely, IPL plays a huge role, but I feel our domestic cricket is also playing a huge role, actually. We have been constantly making great efforts to go out and play all the domestic matches whenever we get a chance, and that's where we tend to develop a lot of talents also. So our grooming teams are really nicely placed - actually, the Mushtaq Ali, the Vijay Hazare, the Ranji Trophy. The Under-19 teams are traveling abroad every season. A great amount of cricketers are coming from (there). So which is a great thing for our country, and we will keep doing our best.

[On Virat Kohi scoring his 86th international hundred] Very, very fortunate to have someone like him. I think whenever he scores runs, whenever we come out to practice, or how to play a game of cricket for our country, or wherever he does, it's a great inspiration for people like us still playing the game in the Indian national team, and everyone playing alongside with him. I think definitely benefits the way he puts on his performances. So I'm very happy.

As we build towards the toss, a little catch up on last night's brutal ODI action back in Guwahati where another band of 11 men pulverized West Indies. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put on a fiery 255-run opening stand with both scoring centuries.
