Shevchenko vs. Fiorot took place May 10 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Valentina Shevchenko (25-4-1) and Manon Fiorot (12-2) squared off in the co-main event clash. The fight aired live on pay-per-view on ESPN+.

Round 1

Referee Marc Goddard on hand for the co-main event.

Shevchenko backs up and looks to work from the outside. Fiorot with a few range-finding strikes. She advances and Shevchenko pops her with two stiff jabs. Shevchenko blocks a kick and hits a counter right. Step-in low kick by Fiort, Shevchenko backs her up with a right hook. Shevchenko’s hands looking sharp early on.

Body kick by Fiorot. Counter-right by Shevchenko. Wayward spin kick by Shevchenko. Guess she’s not worried about Fiorot taking her down. Check hook catches Fiorot bad. Fiorot’s nose is open like a faucet.

Shevchenko catches a kick and immediately goes for a takedown and gets it. She’s happy to work from inside Fiorot’s half guard, Fiorot not offering much in the way of offense off the back. Shevchenko rides it out to take an easy 10-9.

Round 2

Shevchenko goes back to that counter right. Now it’s Fiorot shooting in, Shevchenko has no issue stuffing the attempt. She kicks Fiorot’s body. Jab by Shevchenko. Fiorot with no answers right now.

Fiorot looks to grapple, Shevchenko with a successful trip, they scramble back to the feet. Shevchenko deep on a takedown attempt and now it’s Fiorot showing impressive wrestling defense.

Jab by Fiorot, level change into a takedown, Shevchenko blocks it. Fiorot maintains a body lock, Shevchenko fighting her hands. Elbow by Fiorot scores as they separate.

Fiorot ducks in for another takedown, she pushes hard and gets Shevchenko off her feet and puts her down. Impressive effort from the challenger. Fiorot fires a knee to Shevchenko’s face on the ground, that looked super illegal, but apparently it’s OK because Shevchenko blocked it? Uhhhh...

Round 3

Fiorot leading with her jab and looking to secure takedowns now. Shevchenko keeping the range well as she pecks away with leg kicks. They clash and Fiorot wins the exchange with an inside elbow. Good jabs from Fiorot as she has Shevchenko dodging out of danger.

Level change from Shevchenko, Fiorot has it scouted. Fiorot with multiple knees to the body and Shevchenko has to give up on a clinch. Fiorot making a fine showing in the third.

There’s Shevchenko with a nice clinch knee to the jaw, but Fiorot powers through and muscles Shevchenko to the fence. Stalemate.

They reset with 90 seconds to go before the championship rounds. Jabs are exchanged. Fiorot low on a takedown, Shevchenko having to show incredible balance to stay upright. Fiorot just holding on to Shevchenko’s torso, not doing much, but Shevchenko can’t do much right now either.

Round 4

Shevchenko’s right hand is working when she can get it off. Fiorot throws a high kick, Valentina blocks and counters with a spin kick to the body. Jab from Shevchenko lands, unlucky for Fiorot that they haven’t been able to stop her nose from bleeding.

Fiorot gets a hold of Shevchenko and pushes her back to the fence. Little action here and they reset in center once more. Fiorot wants to create clashes but Shevchenko’s jab has worked in this round. Fiorot not closing the distance as easily. Shevchenko goes back to the body spin kick and it connects.

Fiorot clinches and drives a knee to the body. She wants that body lock, but Shevchenko defends and keeps this one standing. Lunging right from Fiorot. Incredible reaction takedown from Shevchenko and she puts Fiorot on the mat, but Fiorot stands up almost immediately without taking any damage.

Time ticking away with Fiorot back to pressuring along the fence. Shevchenko slips out and lands a left hand. Two fast right hands rock Fiorot and there’s a late knockdown to seal the round for Shevchenko!

Round 5

It all comes down to this. Amazing battle of wills so far.

Shevchenko throwing straight hands as Fiorot marches forward. One mistake could decide this. They clash with Fiorot using a clinch knee to enter and tie Shevchenko up. Shevchenko backs Fiorot off and lands a body kick.

Left down the middle by Shevchenko. Fiorot with a left cross, Shevchenko connects with a counter. Body kick by Fiorot. Shevchenko hits a spinning backfist. Fiorot closes the distance, she wants to neutralize Shevchenko on the fence.

Shevchenko with a combination on the separation. Superman punch from Shevchenko. She changes levels for a takedown, but Fiorot spins her to the fence. Shevchenko out and she’s back to circling. Fiorot in pursuit, having difficulty finding a way in.

Fiorot strings together a couple of punches and she pressures Shevchenko again. Can Fiorot win this fight just holding Shevchenko? It’s possible.

Back to the striking with about 45 seconds to go. A flurry or a takedown could decide it. These punching changes are razor close. Spinning strike from Shevchenko, Fiorot with an elbow. That was a toss-up, damn. Nod to Shevchenko for the output, maybe? But Fiorot has to feel she did enough to win.
