Jake Paul angrily exits Piers Morgan interview after calling host ‘dumbass’
by Alexander K. Lee · MMA FIGHTINGJake Paul is just a day away from his next fight, but might already have his next opponent lined up: TV host Piers Morgan.
The British interviewer had a heated conversation with Paul on his Uncensored program ahead of Paul’s boxing match against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Saturday, and the segment ended with Paul insulting Morgan and abruptly ending the call.
Check out the interview below.
“I think the problem here, Piers, is that you think your opinion matters,” Paul said. “I’m just taking your audience to sell pay-per-views, I don’t give a f*ck about your show. You dumbass. This is a f*cking business enterprise. Buy the pay-per-view on Saturday, June 28, me vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Thank you, tune in, everybody.”
Following those comments, Paul logged off from the interview, much to Morgan’s amusement.
Tensions escalated early in the interview, when Morgan brought up a clip of boxing stars Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford criticizing Paul’s fight with Mike Tyson this past November. Paul vs. Tyson drew massive viewership numbers on Netflix, but the YouTuber-turned-boxer was heavily criticized for stepping into the ring and defeating the 58-year-old Tyson.
Paul became defensive in response to Morgan, Alvarez, and Crawford’s words.
“You guys got all your panties in a wad,” Paul said. “All so butt hurt. You guys should go see a therapist, all three of you.”
Morgan pressed the issue, questioning whether Paul really believed he could defeat Canelo, a four-weight class champion with a 63-2-2 record. Paul again responded aggressively.
“[Alvarez is] a 5-8 little peon,” Paul said. “If we were in the streets, I would grab that little ginger and smack him upside the head and make him forget who the f*ck he was. People don’t realize, I’m a real killer. I really f*cking do this shit. YouTube this, YouTube that, Disney that. This shit is not a joke.
“I’m knocking out the best of the best, beating all of these people time in and time again and it’s about time that you old heads and all these f*cking boxers who think they know about the sport put some respect on my name.”
Paul has won 11 of his 12 boxing bouts since turning pro in 2020. In addition to Tyson, his list of notable victories includes former UFC champions Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley, as well as longtime MMA veterans Nate Diaz, Ben Askren, and Mike Perry. His lone loss came against British reality TV star Tommy Fury, the half-brother of heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury.
As Morgan continued to question him, Paul grew increasingly frustrated with the suggestion that he has faced a poor quality of competition.
“I don’t know what you guys want to see,” Paul said. “I tried to fight Canelo, he ducked out of it. You asked him about that. You said he’s going to kill me, so what do you want, Piers? You’re laughing when you say, ‘Oh, Jake is going to fight Canelo. Ha ha ha ha. I think he would kill him, ha ha ha ha.’ Then you’re like, ‘Oh, you’re not fighting this guy.’
“You’re the problem here with this whole situation and criticism of my career. I’m trying to fight the best people and that’s why Chavez is here on Saturday. I want Canelo. I want Anthony Joshua. I want all these people. It’s been five years in this sport.”
