Magomed Ankalaev throws shade at ‘steroid machine’ Jon Jones after spoiling plans with UFC 313 win
by MMA Fighting Newswire · MMA FIGHTINGMagomed Ankalaev is just like everybody else when it comes to Jon Jones fighting Tom Aspinall, more so now after defeating Alex Pereira for the light heavyweight title at UFC 313.
Ankalaev earned a unanimous decision to capture his first UFC world title this past Saturday in Las Vegas. For several months — including before and after defeating Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 this past November in his first heavyweight title defense — Jones has been calling for a fight with Pereira, which has led to many groans and head shakes from the MMA community with Aspinall being the defending interim champion.
Ankalaev decided to remind Jones that Pereira just lost to him, and that Pereira is off the table for him.
“Jonny steroid machine was very disappointed,” Ankalaev wrote on Twitter. “I beat Alex, please fight big Tom [Aspinall], stop running.”
UFC CEO Dana White is confident the unification bout between Jones and Aspinall happens this year.
As far as Ankalaev goes, it’s likely he’ll have to face Pereira in a rematch, and has already said negotiations are currently ongoing.
