Black Stars’ top defender to miss World Cup due to ACL injury

by · MyNewsGh.com

Black Stars team doctor Dr Prince Pambo has confirmed that defender Mohamed Salisu will miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup because of a serious knee injury.

The AS Monaco defender hurt his anterior cruciate ligament during a league match against Olympique Lyonnais in January. Salisu had surgery and it went well. He has started gym training as he works to get fit again.

After a medical check in France, Dr Pambo said the 26-year-old will need at least nine months to recover. This means he cannot play at the World Cup.

“Mohammed Salisu will miss the World Cup; his knee injury requires nine months to recover,” Dr Pambo told Asempa FM.

Dr Pambo also spoke about midfielder Francis Abu, who hurt his ankle badly during Ghana’s Kirin Cup game against Japan in November.

“Francis Abu was expected to recover five to six months after surgery, but he is responding well to treatment.”

Ghana will start their Group L matches against Panama before playing England and Croatia. The team is expected to meet in March for friendly games against Austria and Germany to prepare for the tournament.

Head coach Otto Addo will name his final squad for the World Cup on June 1.
