Somalia seeks permission to use Accra Sports Stadium for 2027 AFCON qualifiers
by Ayeh Offei-Akoto · MyNewsGh.comSomalia have asked for permission to use the Accra Sports Stadium as their home venue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after being left without a CAF-approved stadium.
The Somali Football Federation (SFF) has written to Ghana’s National Sports Authority (NSA) to seek approval to host its home matches at the renovated stadium.
The request comes after the Accra Sports Stadium was added back to the Confederation of African Football’s list of approved international venues following months of renovation work.
The stadium is currently the only venue in Ghana approved to host CAF and FIFA-sanctioned matches.
Somalia have been drawn in Group C alongside Ghana, Ivory Coast and Gabon. They are due to begin their qualifying campaign away to Gambia on September 25.
The Ocean Stars will then host Ivory Coast four days later.
Accra could become the venue for that match if Ghana approves Somalia’s request.
