I wasn’t influenced by Ghana, Naija social media banter—Referee Daniel Nii Laryea on AFCON Semis
by Ayeh Offei-Akoto · MyNewsGh.comThe referee who officiated the match between Nigeria and Morocco, Daniel Nii Laryea has insisted that the banter between Ghana and Nigeria did not have any effect on his decisions on the day.
According to him, he officiated the match by applying the football laws as it should be and nothing else.
He believes that he gave off his best and the best team won on the day.
Addressing the media on his arrival in Ghana from Morocco, Daniel Nii Laryea said, “The AFCON is the biggest stage in Africa, and it is the second-ranked tournament in the world after the World Cup and the Euros. This is what we have in Africa, so as a referee, when you are given that stage, it is a big opportunity for you.”
“For me, I just do my refereeing. I don’t listen to what goes on on social media or whatever is going on. We just do the laws of the game,” he stated.
Daniel Nii Laryea disclosed that he intends to help the next generation of referees with the experience he has garnered over the years.
