2027 AFCON Qualifiers: Kudus is not in the best condition yet – Tottenham Hotspur coach

by · MyNewsGh.com

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi has raised doubts about Mohammed Kudus being fully ready for Ghana’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Speaking before Tottenham’s Carabao Cup match against Liverpool, De Zerbi named Kudus alongside Mateus Fernandez and Connor Gallagher as players who are still building their fitness.

“Mat Fernandez, Connor Gallagher and Kudus are not in the best condition yet,” he said.

Despite the concerns, De Zerbi suggested Kudus could still play an important attacking role for Tottenham as he continues to regain his fitness.

“Kudus can play number 10, more offensive. The idea is to use the characteristics of the players in the first eleven.”

The Ghana international has made three substitute appearances since returning from a long-term injury that kept him out of action from January 2026.

Kudus returned against Newcastle United late last month before coming off the bench against Nottingham Forest and Everton.

However, De Zerbi believes the 25-year-old is still working to reach his best fitness level.

Kudus missed Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign through injury and is expected to return to the Black Stars squad later this month.

Ghana will face Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in their opening 2027 AFCON qualifying matches.
