Ghana have been eliminated from the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat to France in their final Group C game on Saturday.

The Black Princesses needed a positive result to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive, but France proved too strong in the decisive game.

Clara Bertrand opened the scoring for France before Justine Rouquet doubled their lead.

Rouquet completed her brace to put France firmly in control, while Ornella Graziani scored the fourth goal to seal a convincing win for the European side.

The result saw France finish top of Group C and advance to the knockout stage as group winners.

Korea Republic secured second place after beating Ecuador 3-2 in the other group game.

Ecuador, despite the defeat, remain in contention for a place in the knockout stage as one of the best-performing third-placed teams.
