Ghana’s Black Meteors name 26-man squad for Egypt 2027 qualifiers
by Ayeh Offei-Akoto · MyNewsGh.comBlack Meteors head coach Desmond Ofei has named a 26-man squad for preparations ahead of the TotalEnergies CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2027 qualifiers.
The players are expected to report to camp at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The team will step up preparations and play a number of friendly matches during the camp.
The Black Meteors are expected to remain in camp until the qualifiers begin in November. However, players may be released temporarily to play for their clubs before returning to the national team.
Ghana received a bye into the second qualifying round and will face the winner of the first-round tie between Togo and Libya.
The first leg is scheduled for November 9, 2026, with the return leg set for November 17.
If Ghana progress, they will face the winner of the second-round tie involving Sao Tome and Principe, Equatorial Guinea or Niger in the final qualifying round.
The final qualifying round will be played between March 22 and 30, 2027.
The three-round qualifying competition will produce seven teams that will join hosts Egypt at the eight-team U-23 AFCON finals.
Qualification would also give Ghana the chance to end a long wait for an Olympic appearance. The Black Meteors last featured at the men’s Olympic football tournament at the 2004 Athens Games.
