‘I’ll beat you mercilessly’ | ‘You make mistakes’— Nwabali, Lege Miami clash over Nigeria’s W/Cup playoff loss
by Pelumi Bolawa · TheCable LifestyleA war of words has erupted between actor Lege Miami and Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The conflict began after the Super Eagles lost their crucial qualifier to the Democratic Republic of Congo last Sunday, a result that ended the team’s hopes of World Cup participation for the second consecutive time.
In the wake of the loss, public criticism was heavily directed at goalkeeper Nwabali.
Joining the fray, Lege Miami, born Kehinde Adams, criticised the Chippa United shot-stopper online, accusing him of “playing too much” during the match.

The actor’s comments also included a personal jab that referenced Nwabali’s late father.
Nwabali responded fiercely via his Instagram story, warning the actor to keep his father’s name out of his content.
“Lege Miami remove my late dad’s name from your mouth if you’re doing your content. If you don’t respect people’s dad, you should learn to respect the dead,” he wrote.

“I’m not your regular type of footballer. I go beat you mercilessly. You’re free to insult me but remove my late dad’s name from your mouth.”
In his response, Lege Miami issued a conditional apology for the mention of Nwabali’s father.
However, the actor quickly pivoted to his own criticisms, lambasting the goalkeeper for being “very rude” to his colleagues and attempting to “control the whole pitch” instead of focusing on his goalkeeping duties.
Lege accused Nwabali of having too much “hanky-panky” on the pitch and failing to provide stability and courage to the team.

“First of all, if I mention your late dad’s name and made you get upset, I am sorry. But you are very rude. You are rude to your colleagues. You want to be controlling all the whole pitch. You do not want to listen to correction. When they correct you, you want to be acting like a big man,” he said.
“Your hanky-panky on the pitch is too much. You are not facing your keeping. You are supposed to be giving your colleagues the courage they need. You also need to be stable. You were playing with football inside box 18.
“Are you the only goalkeeper in Nigeria? You make a lot of mistakes. You are not in a position to come to my DMs with insults about my personality. Who are you? Do not come to my DM again if you do not want to be insulted.
“I would have rubbished you if not for Osimhen and Calvin Bassey. Make a video and apologise to all Nigerians that you are sorry.”
