The defeat marked Makepekepe’s third defeat in just five matches, capping a poor start to the 2025 season.

Makepekepe now sit in 16th place, inside the relegation zone, with just four points.

The Green Machine are three points ahead of bottom placed Triangle United.

Frustrated fans broke into protest chants after the defeat to the former champions, demanding Chitembwe’s resignation.

The situation became so tense that some supporters blocked his car from leaving the stadium, prompting police intervention to escort the coach to safety.

Responding to the unrest, Chitembwe said he understands the fans’ reaction, highlighting that is “normal”.

“The results are what matters, when they are not coming, people naturally react, and this is very normal.

“There is nothing abnormal with that kind of a reaction and as a club we have to find a way to manage the situation,” he said.

He also took full responsibility for the team’s poor form.

“It is the sole responsibility of a coach to make sure that the team wins, so it is my responsibility no one else.

“I am that kind of a person who does not shy away from that kind of a responsibility.

“So, I am responsible for this because every decision that I make, are a reflection on the team,” he added.

Makepekepe now prepare for a tough fixture against Bulawayo giants Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium this coming Sunday.
