Mupfurutsa beat Manica Diamonds’ Masimba Chihowa, FC Platinum’s Dumisani Sisale, and Leonard Musariri of Ngezi Platinum Stars.

The election went to a second round after no candidate secured a clear majority in the first round.

In the runoff, Mupfurutsa secured 10 votes to Chihowa’s 8.

Speaking after his election, the former Dynamos chairperson expressed gratitude and a commitment to advancing Zimbabwean football.

“I am honoured by the trust my colleagues have placed in me,” said Mupfurutsa.

“I look forward to working with all stakeholders to grow our league, improve standards and ensure professionalism across all clubs.”

Mupfurutsa replaces Farai Jere, who stepped down in December last year to contest for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) presidency, before withdrawing at the eleventh hour.

The veteran football administrator takes over the reins at a time when the PSL is focused on restructuring and enhancing competitiveness in local football.
