Trump Horns in on Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup Celebration
· Rolling StoneChelsea won the FIFA Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, 3-0, which has nothing to do with President Donald Trump, but that didn’t stop the spotlight-loving former reality TV star from trying to steal some of their shine by staying onstage for the winning celebration.
“Wait, wait, what’s he doing?” Chelsea player Cole Palmer told Chelsea captain Reese James after their win at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, according to USA Today.
Before James hoisted their trophy in the air in celebration, FIFA president Gianni Infantino appears to show Trump the way off the stage, to no avail. James then turns and says something to Trump, which some have interpreted to be, “Are you going to leave?” Whatever he said, Trump remained onstage, grinning like he was on the team, until Infantino — who presented the trophy along with Trump — ultimately pulled him away.
“I knew he was going to be there, but I didn’t know he was going be on the stand where we lift the trophy. So, I was a bit confused,” Palmer told reporters. James added: “I thought he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay.”
Videos showed Trump getting booed during his appearance at the game, when he was shown on the Jumbotron and also when he entered the field for his camera-stealing moment.
“It was a little bit of an upset, I guess you would say,” Trump told reporters following the game. “But it was a great, great match, very well played, tremendous crowd.”

Besides the action on the field, the halftime show featured a surprise performance from Coldplay, who performed “A Sky Full of Stars,” where they were joined by fellow halftime performers J Balvin, Tems, and Doja Cat. Emmanuel Kelly duetted the song with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
Next summer, the U.S. hosts World Cup matches in 16 cities, with auxiliary matches in Canada and Mexico, from July 11 to July 19, 2026. So Trump has plenty of time to plot more FIFA camera time, or hopefully Infantino and team winners figure out a way to keep it about the game.
