- Samson had scored 2 hundreds in the previous T20I series
Sanju Samson continued to struggle against pace in India’s 5-match T20I series against England on Sunday, February 2. Samson once again lost his wicket to the short ball, early in his innings. This marked the fifth time in as many matches that Samson got out in the same way.
Throughout the series, Samson found it difficult to negotiate the short ball. The batter lost his wickets to Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, failing to pull them over the boundary.
Samson's scores in this series were a stark contrast to his performance against South Africa, his previous outing for the Indian T20I team. Samson scored 26, 5, 3, 1, and 16 in his five innings against England.
On Sunday, Samson started with promise, hitting Jofra Archer for a six off the very first ball of the match. Expecting a short ball, Samson shuffled across the stumps, came inside the line, and pulled Archer through midwicket. Samson repeated the shot later in the innings but was unable to continue his batting display.
After hitting his first six, Samson repeated his critical mistake from previous matches by walking away from the line of the ball to make room. This mistake cost Samson his wicket in the second over of the match against Mark Wood, as the batter handed a catch to Jofra Archer at deep fine leg.
Abhishek Sharma's Charge Continues
Sanju Samson’s wicket did not slow India down in Mumbai on Sunday. Abhishek Sharma, who has been in good touch throughout the series, took charge of the scoring and played some breathtaking strokes en route to his century. Abhishek completed his century in just 37 balls, and by that time, he had already hit 5 fours and 10 sixes.
Abhishek's ridiculous hitting rattled England as they conceded 143 runs in the first 10 overs of the game.
India had already clinched the T20I series in the last game at Rajkot. India will be hoping to secure a clinical win in Mumbai to assert their dominance over Brendon McCullum's team.
