Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer wants to mark himself in T20s at the No.3 spot as he starts a new journey in IPL 2025. Shreyas is in a new franchise after leading Kolkata Knight Riders to the title last season after Punjab shelled out 26.75 crore rupees for him. The 30-year-old mainly played in the middle order for KKR last season.
During the Champions Trophy, Shreyas made a big impact coming in at No.4 and, ahead of the new season, he is eyeing up a new role. Speaking at a pre-tournament press conference, Shreyas stated that he wants to make a mark at the No.3 spot for Punjab this season, and he is quite clear about his spot.

Shreyas has made a good impact batting at No.3 in T20Is as he has scored 530 runs in 19 matches for India. However, his last T20I game came all the way back in 2023 and Shreyas feels the IPL will be a chance for him to make his mark.
"We already know that IPL is an integral part of Indian cricket. And If I would want to mark myself at some position in T20, it would be number 3. And that's what I'm focusing at. I wouldn't say that we are planning and thinking about what number I will be batting."
"This time I'm quite clear about that position. And I'm going to be focusing on that number. As long as coach approves of me," said Shreyas.
'PBKS is an opportunity'
PBKS are one of the few sides who are yet to win a title in their history and haven't made it to the playoffs since 2014. Punjab, over the years, has been inconsistent on the field and have seen many coaches and captains come and go.
Shreyas said that importance would be given to winning the trophy. He feels he has no pressure of Punjab, having never won the IPL and sees this as an opportunity.
"The importance is to win the trophy. There is no pressure (of Punjab having never won the IPL). It is an opportunity," said Shreyas.
Punjab begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 25.
