India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to continue representing Mumbai in domestic cricket. On Monday, June 30, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) accepted his request to cancel the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) previously issued for his proposed move to the Goa domestic team.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik confirmed the development and expressed his delight at having one of the country’s most promising talents remain with Mumbai.
“Yashasvi has always been a proud product of Mumbai cricket. We have accepted his application to withdraw the NOC, and he will be available to represent Mumbai in the upcoming domestic season,” said Naik.
In April, Jaiswal had raised eyebrows by requesting to play for Goa, who had recently been promoted to the Elite division from the Plate group in the Ranji Trophy. It was reported that Jaiswal was eyeing the captaincy role, especially after the Goa Cricket Association chief publicly stated that the India opener would lead the team if the move went through. The MCA promptly approved Jaiswal’s request, and it appeared the left-handed batsman was set to make the switch.
However, in May, Jaiswal informed the MCA of his decision to stay with Mumbai and requested that his NOC be revoked. In a letter to the association, Jaiswal explained that his intention to move had stemmed from his family's plans to relocate to Goa—plans which were later put on hold, making the move unnecessary.
“I, the undersigned, would like to request your good self to consider my application to withdraw the NOC that had been issued to me, as my family’s intended relocation to Goa has, for now, been curtailed,” Jaiswal wrote. He added that he had not submitted the NOC to either the Goa Cricket Association or the BCCI.
Jaiswal, originally from Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh, moved to Mumbai at a young age and made his first-class debut for the city in 2019. Within a year, he featured in the U19 World Cup for India, where he made a significant impact. Following a successful stint with the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, he earned his maiden Test cap for India in 2023. Since then, Jaiswal has represented the national side in 20 Tests, 23 T20Is and an ODI.
Jaiswal is currently part of the Indian Test team, which is in England for a five-Test series. Jaiswal began the series with a hundred in Leeds, but was guilty of dropping four catches in their five-wicket defeat.
While Jaiswal is now confirmed to stay with Mumbai, out-of-favour opener Prithvi Shaw is expected to depart ahead of the 2025–26 domestic season. Shaw submitted a request for an NOC earlier this month to join another domestic side, which the MCA has approved.
