by · India Today

In Short

  • Harshit could come in if Dube is unfit and India go for 2 frontline pacers
  • India have won the series 3-1 in Pune
  • England could look to rest Archer and Rashid for the dead rubber

India and England are all set to finish off the series with a bang at the iconic Wankhede stadium in Mumbai with the final match of the T20I series on Sunday, February 2. India wrapped up the series with a 16-run win in Pune, but it was one man who stole the headlines on the day.

Harshit Rana, who was relaxing in the changing room, was summoned to head to the field after Shivam Dube failed to recover in time from a knock to the helmet he received in the final over of the Indian innings. Everyone was stunned to see Harshit come in as he made an instant impact by taking the catch to dismiss the dangerous Jos Buttler. He followed it up with figures of 3 for 33 in his 4 overs as he turned the game in India's favour in the end.

While the jury is out on the decision to have him as the concussion sub, Harshit delivered for his side at the right time with his impressive variations. The question now on everyone's mind will be to see if the youngster does get the chance to play in the final match of the series, which is essentially a dead rubber.

India vs England, 5th T20I: Predicted Playing XIs

Harshit Rana coming into the playing XI will heavily depend on a few things. The main one will be if India is ready to abandon their current strategy of going with just one frontline pacer. Hardik Pandya has done well as the second pacer, but given that it is a dead rubber, the team management could be in a mood to experiment.

If that is the case, then the Delhi pacer could come in if Dube fails to recover in time for the match. If the batting all-rounder is out, it could also open the door for Ramnadeep Singh to come in as well. India could also choose to rotate a bit and bring back Mohammed Shami instead of Arshdeep Singh to give the right-arm pacer some game time.

For England, it's all about pride as they let the Pune T20I slip out of their fingers. Saqib Mahmood has impressed everyone and is sure to retain his spot in the side. England could look to rest Jofra Archer, who has played all the 4 matches so far.

Expect some rest for Archer as Gus Atkinson or Mark Wood could return to the side. We could also see Jamie Smith come into the team as Jacob Bethell continues to struggle to make an impact. Rehan Ahmed could also come in as Adil Rashid could be given some rest with the ODI series and the Champions Trophy on the horizon.
