IND vs ENG: Abhishek Sharma breaks Suryakumar Yadav's record with 17-ball 50

Abhishek Sharma broke Suryakumar Yadav's record for the fastest fifty by an Indian at home as he put the England bowlers to the sword. Abhishek hit his fifty in just 17 balls.

Abhishek Sharma broke India captain Suryakumar Yadav's record as he hit a 17-ball 50 against England during the Mumbai T20I on Sunday, February 2. Abhishek's effort meant that this was the fastest fifty 50 by an Indian at home as he put the English bowlers to the sword. This was also the second-fastest fifty by an Indian in T20I history.

Abhishek has been installed at the top of the order after the T20 World Cup win and has made the spot his own. The southpaw scored a 34-ball 79 in the first T20I in Kolkata against England, but was bit subdued in the next few games according to his own standards. Abhishek was a spectator in the earlygoings of the match as it was Sanju Samson who set the pace.

But once Samson departed once again to a short ball, Abhishek cut lose in the third over. He started with a boundary off Jofra Archer and followed it up with 2 sixes in the same over. This was followed up by 2 boundaries and a six off Mark Wood in the next one as India raced to 50 before the completion of the 4 overs. Abhishek continued the onslaught against Jamie Overton and hit him for back-to-back sixes to reach his half-century.

Abhishek would continue to play his strokes after reaching the landmark as India scored 95 runs in the first six overs. This was their best score in the powerplay against any opponent. Suryakumar had the previous best when it comes to fifties at home as he scored one against South Africa in Guwahati in 2022.
