Smriti Mandhana creates history, becomes highest run-getter in women's T20Is

Smriti Mandhana moved past Suzie Bates during India's Asian Games semi-final against Bangladesh to become the highest run-getter in women's T20Is.

Smriti Mandhana now sits at the top run-scoring charts in women's cricket. The Indian opener went past New Zealand's Suzie Bates and reached the landmark during the Asian Games women's cricket semi-final between India and Bangladesh.

Mandhana needed just seven runs to go past Bates and she did that in the third over with a sensational boundary as India got off to a flying start in the contest. The Indian vice-captain came into the Asian Games after a sensational Asia Cup campaign, where she was the second-highest run-getter in the tournament.

Mandhana scored 213 runs and hit a hundred against Hong Kong China, during the course of which she became the highest run-getter in the history of women's cricket.

HOW MANDHANA WENT PAST THE RECORD

Mandhana started with an early boundary in the first over as India won the toss and opted to bat first. But after that hit, Mandhana allowed Shafali Verma to take over and launch an assault on the Bangladesh bowlers.

Mandhana quickly got back into the act in the third over as she hit back-to-back boundaries. One of them was enough for her to get the record in her name. Once that was done, Mandhana shifted gears and started to free her arms.

Mandhana hit a couple of sixes and India were quickly on top of the contest. The sixes also allowed Mandhana to reach the landmark of 100 maximums in women's T20Is as she joined the likes of Sophie Devine, DeAndre Dottin and Chamari Athpaththu in the list.
