Lungi Ngidi is fit and available for Delhi Capitals’ home game against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday, May 5. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, DC bowling coach Munaf Patel confirmed that all of the team’s pacers are fit and available for selection.

This opens up the possibility of Delhi fielding both Ngidi and Mitchell Starc together for the first time in the Indian Premier League. DC have largely relied on an Indian bowling core in recent seasons, and this could mark a shift towards a more pace-heavy overseas combination.

The last time Delhi deployed two high-quality overseas fast bowlers together was during the 2020-21 season, when Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada led the attack.

“Lungi and all bowlers are 100 percent fit. He did not play the last two games because of the six-day criteria, but he is fully fit now,” Munaf said.

Ngidi had suffered a serious head injury while fielding against Punjab Kings on April 25 and was taken off the field in an ambulance. He spent a day in hospital before being declared out of danger, but IPL protocols required a mandatory six-day break before returning to action.

Munaf also emphasised the importance of early wickets in the powerplay, highlighting the impact of Starc, who picked up three wickets on his return to the IPL on May 1.

“When the main bowler is there and takes a few wickets in the powerplay, it makes a big difference. Bowling in partnerships was missing, but that has been added now,” he added.

Delhi Capitals are currently seventh in the standings, while Chennai Super Kings sit just above them in sixth. Both teams have eight points from nine matches.
