In Short

  • Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hit his 2nd IPL hundred
  • Vaibhav became the youngest to score 1000 T20 runs
  • The left-hander reached his hundred in 36 balls

15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stormed to his second hundred in the Indian Premier League in just 36 balls on Saturday, April 25. SunRisers Hyderabad felt the full wrath of the youngster in Jaipur, where he looked in menacing touch. Vaibhav smashed his way to the third-fastest IPL hundred of all time and now has two of the three fastest milestones to his name. Last season, he hit his maiden hundred against Gujarat Titans in 35 balls, scripting history as the youngest player to achieve the elite feat.

Vaibhav came out with intent on Saturday, hitting Praful Hinge for four sixes in a row in the very first over. This was an exceptional show of intent from a batter who was dismissed for a golden duck against SRH in their previous encounter this season.

Vaibhav's failure in that game led to Rajasthan choking in a simple chase of 217, which handed them their first defeat of the season. After that game, RR lost momentum, which moved Vaibhav to tears after their loss against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 19.

VAIBHAV SOORYAVANSHI'S CHARGE

However, he was not letting the same happen today. When Praful Hinge tried the same ploy of going short against the left-hander, Vaibhav rocked back and smashed him for a six on the leg side. If that show of intent was not enough, he repeated that four more times, racing to 30 off just 6 balls.

He continued marauding the SRH bowling attack while Dhruv Jurel took his time to settle into his rhythm. Vaibhav was especially punishing against another SRH uncapped pacer, Sakib Hussain, hitting him for two sixes and a four in the 14th over of the match to reach his hundred.

On Saturday, Vaibhav went hammer and tongs to hit 12 sixes and just 5 fours. At any point of his innings, he was not interested in keeping the ball down on the ground.

However, Sakib was able to dismiss Vaibhav on the very next ball after he scored his hundred. Sakib bowled a full ball from over the wicket. Vaibhav was unable to judge the slower ball and failed to connect with the reverse lap. The ball hit him flush on his left pad, and he was given out by the on-field umpire.

IPL: ROYALS SETTLE FOR 228

After Vaibhav's dismissal, Rajasthan's run rate took a massive dent. Pat Cummins, Praful Hinge, and Ehsan Malinga took onus on themselves to restrict Rajasthan to a total of 228 runs.

To put things in context, Rajasthan had crossed the 100-run mark in the 9th over itself and were looking set for a 240+ total.

Earlier on Saturday, Delhi Capitals played out a high-scoring encounter against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Delhi scored a mammoth total of 264 runs, but ended up losing the match. Punjab, guided by Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer, chased a record target in just 18.5 overs.
