Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 166 runs for the opening partnership in just 71 deliveries, as Rajasthan made a steep chase look like a walk in the park. Vaibhav became the youngest male cricketer in the history of Twenty20 cricket to hit a hundred, and his 35-ball century was the second-fastest in IPL history. Only Chris Gayle (30 balls) has scored a hundred at a quicker pace than the wunderkind from Bihar.
Shubman Gill's 84 was overshadowed by the brilliance of the young Suryavanshi, as Gujarat Titans did not stand a chance on Monday despite posting 209 on a good batting pitch at Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
The Rajasthan Royals were on a five-match losing streak and had been finding ways to lose matches that were within their grasp. In their last three games, Rajasthan lost from positions of strength in inexplicable fashion during run-chases. When stand-in captain Riyan Parag won the toss and opted to bowl, Rajasthan fans might have feared the worst, as a defeat on Monday would have ended their mathematical chances of reaching the playoffs.
However, Vaibhav Suryavanshi ensured there were no further hiccups, hitting 11 sixes and seven boundaries in a breathtaking knock in Jaipur. Vaibhav tore into some of the best bowlers in the business, including Rashid Khan, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Ishant Sharma. He showcased his incredible range and hitting ability, smashing 30 runs in a single over against Karim Janat, the Afghanistan all-rounder making his IPL debut.
Vaibhav completed his fifty in just 17 balls and went on to reach his hundred in 35 balls in only his third IPL match.
The Rajasthan fans gave Vaibhav a standing ovation when the teenager completed his century. Head coach Rahul Dravid rose from his wheelchair to join in the celebrations, creating one of the most memorable moments in the history of the IPL.
With the commanding win, Rajasthan kept their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive. They remain rooted to eighth spot with six points from 10 matches. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans continue to sit comfortably in the top four, with 12 points from nine matches.
