BAN vs SA, 2nd Test, Day 3 Highlights

In Chattogram, it took South Africa less than three days to hand Bangladesh the crushing defeat. After the visiting team put up a score of 575 for six (declared), the Tigers’ batting collapsed in both the innings. The hosts lost 16 wickets on Day 3, showing how shambolic their batters were on the third day.

From trailing by 538 runs with six wickets in hand in the first innings, Najmul Hossain Shanto’s men could not put up any fight. They were asked to follow on after they conceded a lead of 416 runs. Kagiso Rabada picked up five wickets and was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa. Dane Paterson and Keshav Maharaj picked up two wickets apiece.

Bangladesh were tottering at 48 for eight before Mominul Haque and Taijul Islam restored sanity. Mominul fought hard with a knock of 82 off 112, laced with eight fours and two sixes. Taijul, who took a five-wicket haul in the first innings, chipped in with a 30-run knock as Bangladesh were bowled out for 159.

In the second innings, the Tigers lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 143 in 43.4 overs. Shanto and Mahidul Islam Ankon, the young debutant, scored 36 and 29 runs respectively, but they did not get much support from the others, including Mushfiqur Rahim and others.

Hasan Mahmud delayed the inevitable with a quick-fire 38 off 30 balls, carved with one four and four sixes. Keshav Maharaj dismissed Nahid Rana to pull the curtains down on the game. Maharaj racked up a five-wicket haul to rattle the Bangladeshi attack. Senuran Muthusamy, who scored a brisk fifty, picked up four wickets.
