  • The Indian tennis player has been in good form on the tour

Indian doubles ace Yuki Bhambri and his Swedish partner Andre Goransson have reached a historic milestone by advancing to the semifinals of the 2026 Indian Wells Masters. The unseeded duo continued their clinical run in the Tennis Paradise by defeating the Austrian-Italian pairing of Alexander Erler and Andrea Vavassori in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(7).

This victory marks a significant personal breakthrough for Bhambri, representing his maiden semifinal appearance at an ATP Masters 1000 tournament. It also ends a two-year drought for Indian representation in the final four of a Masters event, following Rohan Bopanna's title-winning run in Miami in 2024.

Bhambri and Goransson have been a force to reckon with since the tournament began. They opened their campaign with an authoritative 6-1, 6-3 win over David Pel and Fabrice Martin. In the pre-quarterfinals, they displayed exceptional composure to dispatch Sander Arends and Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4, a match in which they did not face a single break point.

Their quarterfinal clash against Erler and Vavassori was a more gruelling affair. After comfortably taking the first set, the Indo-Swedish pair found themselves in a tense second-set tiebreaker. Demonstrating the chemistry that has defined their 2026 season, they saved set points to seal the match in an hour and 40 minutes.

The partnership between Bhambri and Goransson has flourished since the start of the year. Seeded 10th at the Australian Open in January, they reached the second round after a near-flawless opening performance against local wildcards James Duckworth and Cruz Hewitt. Bhambri, currently the top-ranked doubles player in Asia at world No. 23, has found a reliable rhythm with Goransson, combining his baseline craft with the Swede's sharp net play.

This run in California is a continuation of the momentum Bhambri built during a career-defining 2025 season. Last year, Bhambri reached the semifinals of the US Open alongside New Zealand's Michael Venus – marking his first-ever appearance in the final four of a Grand Slam. Though they narrowly lost a three-set marathon to Great Britain's Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury, that performance propelled Bhambri into the elite bracket of doubles specialists.

Now, with the backing of the Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) and a spot in the Indian Wells semifinals, Bhambri and Goransson are firmly established as one of the most dangerous unseeded pairs on the ATP tour. They will look to carry this form into the final weekend as they chase their first Masters 1000 tinal.
