Planning a trip home this summer? Indian Railways is stepping in with a practical solution. To deal with the surge in passengers during the holiday season, it has announced summer special trains on busy routes connecting Mumbai, Gujarat and Kolkata with Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Every year, as summer holidays begin, trains get packed quickly. Getting a confirmed ticket becomes a challenge, especially for those travelling long distances to their hometowns. To tackle this, Indian Railways runs seasonal trains and 2026 is no different.

SUMMER SPECIAL TRAINS FOR HOLIDAY RUSH

The newly announced services are aimed at easing the heavy rush seen during summer travel. These trains will run on key long-distance routes where demand is usually at its peak.

Railway officials say the move is part of a regular effort to support passengers during holidays, when many people travel back home from cities for family visits.

KEY ROUTES COVERED

The summer special trains will connect major cities like Mumbai, Gujarat hubs and Kolkata with destinations across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar two regions that see high passenger movement during this time.

One of the highlighted services is the Udhna–Jaynagar unreserved special train (09091/09092), which runs via Gorakhpur. It departs from Udhna on April 12, 2026, and from Jaynagar on April 15, 2026.

The train passes through several important stations including Vadodara, Kota, Agra Fort, Kanpur Central, Gorakhpur and Darbhanga before reaching its destination.

MORE OPTIONS, LESS STRESS

For passengers, this means more travel options during one of the busiest times of the year. Instead of relying only on regular trains, which often fill up days in advance, these special services give people a better chance at booking confirmed tickets.

Unreserved coaches in some of these trains also make travel possible even for those making last-minute plans.

Summer is one of the busiest travel seasons in India. With schools closed and holidays in full swing, trains connecting metro cities to states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar see a sharp rise in demand.

By introducing summer special trains, Indian Railways is trying to reduce overcrowding and make journeys smoother for passengers across these high-demand routes.

If you’re travelling soon, checking these special train schedules could save you both time and stress.
