Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has told fans to expect the unexpected when they face Barcelona in the final of the Super Cup. Los Blancos made it to the summit clash after their 3-0 win over Mallorca while Barcelona beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 in the other semi-final.
The El Clasico over the past few years have seen some erratic scorelines with a couple of big wins for either side. The last meeting between the two saw Barca thrash Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu 4-0 in the LaLiga last year. Ancelotti pointed to this and claimed that it would be hard to predict the outcome of the Clasico and assured that it would be an exciting contest after winning the semi-final clash.
"The Clasico has been unpredictable lately," Ancelotti told reporters on Thursday.
"There were games we won easily, like the 4-1 last year in the Super Cup. We also won 4-0 twice in Barcelona while they beat us 4-0 at the Bernabeu.
"It's hard to think what kind of game the next one will be. It will be entertaining because there is quality on the pitch. And obviously we want to end up being better than Barcelona."
Real Madrid took some time to get going in their clash against Mallorca as Jude Bellingham broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute before an own goal from Martin Valjent and Rodrygo in stoppage time sealed the deal. Ancelotti said that his side should have opened the scoring in the first half after a good first half.
The Madrid boss said that the game did become difficult for them as Mallorca stuck to their game plan.
"We started very well, but we could have opened the scoring a little earlier, in the first half," Ancelotti said.
"After the good start it became more difficult for us. It was a demanding game because Mallorca played the game they had to play."
"They were defending very well, closing spaces, trying to look for opportunities with crosses. A couple of times they created problems for us."
Real Madrid and Barcelona will face off in the Spanish Cup final on Sunday, January 12.
