Renault Duster secures 5-star BNCAP rating, scores high on adult and child safety

The Renault Duster has secured a 5-star rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme, underlining its strong safety credentials and well-rounded protection for both adult and child occupants.

Renault India has announced that the Renault Duster has achieved a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP).

The SUV delivered good performance across both key parameters, scoring 30.49 out of 32 in adult occupant protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 in child occupant protection (COP). Notably, the 5-star certification applies across all variants.

Strong crash-test performance

The rating is based on tests conducted on Evolution, Techno and Iconic variants of the turbo-petrol Duster. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the SUV scored 14.49 out of 16 points, while it achieved a full 16/16 in the side movable deformable barrier test.

Protection levels for the driver were rated ‘good’ for the head, neck, pelvis and thighs, though chest and tibia protection were marked ‘adequate’. The co-driver received ‘good’ protection across all critical areas. In the more demanding side pole impact test, the Duster was rated ‘OK’.

Child safety

For child occupant protection, the Duster performed strongly with maximum dynamic scores for both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies in frontal and side crash scenarios. It also secured full points for the child restraint system (CRS). However, the overall COP score stood at 45/49 due to a slightly lower vehicle assessment rating.

Built for safety from the ground up

Renault says the new Duster was engineered from the outset to meet stringent 5-star safety targets. Built on the RGMP platform, the SUV features enhanced structural integrity designed to deliver consistent occupant protection across crash scenarios.

Safety package

The new Duster comes equipped with 35 standard safety features across all variants. These include:

  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
  • Six airbags
  • Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • ISOFIX child seat mounts
  • Three-point seatbelts for all occupants
  • Seatbelt reminders for all passengers

Higher variants also offer up to 17 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and blind spot detection.

Pricing and rivals

The Renault Duster is priced between Rs 10.49 lakh and Rs 18.49 lakh (ex-showroom), with dual-tone options available at an additional cost. It competes in the midsize SUV segment against rivals like the Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq.
