Chennai Super Kings announced the signing of 26-year-old Baroda batter Urvil Patel as replacement for Vansh Bedi on Monday, May 5. CSK have three more matches left in the IPL 2025 season, having already been knocked out of the playoffs race.

"Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has signed Urvil Patel as a replacement for Vansh Bedi, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament owing to a ligament tear in the left ankle," the IPL said in a statement on Monday.

Urvil Patel made a mark in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament last year. After going unsiold in the mega auction, the 26-year-old from Baroda smashed a 28-ball hundred against Tripura in a T20 game for Gujarat. He broke Rishabh Pant's record for the fastest hundred by an Indian in the Twenty20 format. A week later, the Gujarat batter smashed a 36-ball hundred against Uttarakhand.

Urvil Patel was part of the Gujarat Titans set-up in 2023, but the wicketkeeper-batter did not get an opportunity to make his IPL debut.

He has played 47 T20 games with 1162 runs at a staggering strike rate of 170.
