Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has committed his future to the club by signing a new five-and-a-half-year contract, extending his stay at Old Trafford until June 2030. This long-term deal comes during a breakout season for the 22-year-old Ivory Coast international, despite Manchester United's struggles in the current campaign.
Diallo's previous contract was set to expire at the end of the season, with the club holding an option for a 12-month extension. However, United opted to secure his services on fresh terms, signalling their confidence in his potential. The winger has been instrumental this season, scoring six goals in 27 appearances and becoming a vital part of Erik ten Hag's squad.
"I am really proud to have signed this new contract. I have had some incredible moments with this club already, but there is so much more to come," Diallo said. "I have huge ambitions in the game and want to achieve history at Manchester United. It has been a difficult season for everyone, but I fully believe we are on the right path. The future is going to be really special. I am ready to give everything to help the team and make our supporters proud again."
Diallo joined Manchester United in January 2021 from Atalanta and has since made 50 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals. His development has been gradual but promising. After making just nine appearances in his first three seasons at Old Trafford, he was loaned out twice-to Glasgow Rangers in 2022 and to Sunderland in the 2022-23 season.
It was his loan spell at Sunderland that proved transformative. Diallo scored 14 goals in 42 appearances for the Championship side, showcasing his flair, technical ability, and knack for scoring decisive goals. His performances caught the attention of Manchester United, and he was retained for the 2023-24 season, despite significant interest from other clubs.
Diallo faced a setback with a knee injury sustained during pre-season, sidelining him for five months. However, he returned to action with a bang. His most notable contribution this season came in a dramatic 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool, where he scored a last-minute winner at Old Trafford.
He further cemented his status with crucial goals, including a stoppage-time winner against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in December and an equalizer in a thrilling 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield. These moments have elevated his stature as a first-team regular under Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United's technical director Jason Wilcox praised Diallo's growth and potential. "Everyone is delighted with Amad's development. His quality on the ball, versatility, and determination make him a key part of the future of Manchester United," Wilcox said. "The best years of his career are ahead of him, and we all look forward to helping Amad reach his immense potential and achieve success at the club."
