Abhishek Sharma goes on record-breaking spree
Abhishek went berserk right from the outset, taking on the English bowlers with the utmost ease. He racked up the fastest fifty by an Indian on home soil off a mere 17 balls. Thereafter, he smashed the second-fastest hundred by an Indian in T20Is off 37 balls, only behind Rohit Sharma's 35-ball century against Sri Lanka in Indore in 2017.
Abhishek broke Shubman Gill’s record for the highest individual score by an Indian batter in T20Is. Shubman held the record for two years after his unbeaten 126 against New Zealand back in February 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Abhishek also broke Rohit Sharma’s record for most sixes by an Indian in a T20I innings. Earlier, Rohit, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma jointly held the record. In 17 T20Is, Abhishek has scored 535 runs at an average of 33.43. Earlier this year, Abhishek broke into the Indian team after some incredible knocks for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
