Abhishek Sharma hit India’s second-fastest T20I century off 37 balls in the fifth T20I against England on Sunday, February 2 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma, who retired from T20Is after the Men’s T20 World Cup last year in the West Indies and USA, kept holding the record off 35 balls against Sri Lanka back in December 2017. Abhishek was at his very best as he took the English bowlers to the cleaners on an excellent pitch to bat on in Mumbai.

India vs England, 5th T20I Updates

Abhishek was close to breaking Rohit’s record, but a couple of dot balls off Adil Rashid in the 10th over meant that he couldn’t go past the veteran. Earlier, the southpaw also hit a 17-ball half-century, the second fastest for India in Men’s T20Is after Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball fifty against England in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2007 at the Kingsmead in Durban.

However, Abhishek smacked the fastest fifty by an Indian at home off 17 balls, going past Suryakumar Yadav’s 18-ball fifty against South Africa back in October 2022 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. The record for the fastest hundred in T20Is is held by Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan off 27 balls against Cyprus back in June 2024 at the Happy Valley Ground.
