Indian Women’s Hockey Team win Gold Medal at Asian Games 2026: Odisha CM, LoP and others extend congratulations

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi along with others including Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik extended their congratulations to the Indian Women’s Hockey Team on winning the Gold Medal at the Asian Games 2026.

Taking to his X handle, the CM said, “Heartiest congratulations to the Indian Women’s Hockey Team on winning the Gold Medal at the Asian Games 2026.”

“With a thrilling 1–0 victory over China in the final, India has ended a 44-year wait to reclaim the Asian Games title, securing its second Asian Games Gold Medal in women’s hockey after the historic 1982 triumph,” he added.

Majhi further said, “This is more than a victory. It is a celebration of the strength, courage and determination of Nari Shakti shining on the biggest stage.”

“A proud and historic moment for Indian Hockey. The nation celebrates our champions,” Majhi mentioned.

Likewise, the Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik said, “Congratulate Indian Women’s Hockey Team on winning gold medal at the #AsianGames2026 after 44 years. They have made every Indian proud with their victory over defending champion China and qualifying for #2028Olympics. It is a profoundly moving moment for me and everyone in #Odisha whose bond with hockey runs deep. May this triumph infuse fresh energy into Indian Hockey and usher in a new era of laurels and glory for the nation. Wish the team all the very best for future.”

Odisha Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida also congratulated the India’s Women’s Hockey Team. “44 YEARS LATER, GOLD RETURNS! A historic chapter is written as India’s Women’s Hockey Team defeats China 1–0 to reclaim the Asian Games crown after four decades. Lalremsiami’s decisive 10th‑minute strike not only sealed victory but also secured direct qualification for LA 2028. This triumph is more than a medal — it is a testament to resilience, unity, and the indomitable spirit of Indian women in sport. The tricolour rises high, and the nation celebrates a golden legacy reborn,” said Singh Deo on his X handle.

Parida also said, “44 years later, GOLD is back! India’s women’s hockey team defeats China 1–0 to reclaim the Asian Games title, with Lalremsiami’s 10th-minute strike sealing a historic victory and direct qualification for LA 2028.”
