Ranchi: A stampede reportedly broke out at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi evening during the final match of the inaugural Jharkhand Premier League 2026, leaving several spectators injured, according to Dainik Jagran.
What happened
The incident occurred during the JPL final between Chotanagpur Royals and Jamshedpur Steelers. Eyewitnesses said a sudden rush of fans trying to enter through Gate No. 3 after the toss triggered panic and a stampede-like situation. The match had free entry, which drew a massive crowd beyond capacity.
Videos circulating on social media show people jostling, with some falling as security personnel tried to control the crowd. Several injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, including RIMS Ranchi. The exact number of injured and the severity of injuries have not been officially confirmed yet.
