Morgan Gibbs-White transfer latest as Nottingham Forest contract claim made

by · NottinghamshireLive

Morgan Gibbs-White is seemingly carrying on as normal at Nottingham Forest amid the furore surrounding interest in him from Tottenham Hotspur.

Rumours have swirled on social media suggesting the England international had not turned up for training this morning (Tuesday). The speculation came as Spurs’ pursuit of the Reds ace has developed into something of a spat between the two clubs.

Gibbs-White had appeared to be heading for the capital late last week after the north London side had triggered a £60 million release clause in his contract. A medical was due to take place last Friday but Forest were furious over what they considered to be an illegal approach for their star man and the potential move came to a halt.

The Reds have since made an official complaint to the Premier League regarding Tottenham’s alleged actions. They are also said to have sent a letter to Spurs themselves.

Gibbs-White rejoined his teammates for pre-season on Monday, having been permitted additional time off due to his international commitments last month. And NottinghamshireLive has been told the 25-year-old made his way to the Nigel Doughty Academy again this morning and has trained with Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.

According to the Daily Mail, having returned Trentside, the attacker has held talks with the club regarding his future. The Reds are said to have sent an ‘explosive letter’ to Tottenham, as well as to the Premier League, and have instructed their rivals not to make any further contact with the player.

It remains to be seen what steps the Premier League now take. If they decide to investigate and Spurs are found guilty of effectively tapping up Gibbs-White, it is said they could be hit with a significant fine or potentially a transfer ban.

Sky Sports report Forest are ‘adamant’ their prized asset is not going anywhere this summer. They claim the Reds have tried to initiate new contract talks with Gibbs-White for the past year but have not got anywhere.

The attacker’s current deal is due to expire in 2027. It is said Forest’s aim was to include a pay rise and a removal of the £60m buy-out clause in Gibbs-White’s contract, but he ‘refused’ to engage.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers man was not involved as the Reds kicked off their pre-season with a 0-0 draw at Chesterfield last weekend. Nuno’s men are in action again this Saturday, when they take on AS Monaco at the SMH Stadium (3pm kick-off) for their second friendly of the summer.
