Nottingham Forest transfer timeline set out as 'full agreement' reached

by · NottinghamshireLive

Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has reportedly convinced Ramon Sosa a move away from Nottingham Forest is best for his career.

The winger is in line to leave the City Ground after 12 months at the club. A summer switch to Palmeiras is on the cards, with reports suggesting a ‘full agreement’ has been reached between the two teams.

Sosa joined the Reds from Talleres 12 months ago but struggled for game time Trentside last season. He featured just 23 times in the Garibaldi, with all but four of his appearances coming from off the bench.

Palmeiras had their eye on the Paraguayan in January. Forest reportedly turned down a bid from the Brazilian outfit back then because Sosa made it clear he did not want to leave.

Reports earlier this summer indicated the player’s stance had not changed. But according to Paraguayan publication Versus, Sosa has now been persuaded to make the switch.

Nuno is said to have told the 25-year-old he would not be ‘a priority’ with the Reds in 2025/26 and that the club were ‘open’ to selling him. All that remains for the transfer to be completed is a ‘contract signature’, according to the report.

The reported £10 million deal is expected to be rubber-stamped when Palmeiras’ participation in the Club World Cup ends. They take on Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the competition on Saturday.

According to Versus, Sosa is expected to head back to the UK to collect his belongings and then make the trip to Brazil to sign for Palmeiras. Forest are due to return to the Nigel Doughty Academy for pre-season on Monday, so it remains to be seen to what extent - if at all - Sosa will be involved.

The Paraguay international’s future at the City Ground had looked in doubt when he remained an unused substitute during last season’s run-in. Despite the Reds being in need of positive results to finish in the top five, Sosa did not get off the bench in their final three games.

He addressed speculation linking him with Palmeiras a few weeks ago. In a translated interview, he said: “I saw that on social media, but the truth is I didn't hear anything about it. I'm going to stay in the Premier League, always.

“Personally, I'm fine. As everyone has seen, I haven't been playing in consecutive games lately. But in practice and physically, I'm feeling very good. We'll see what happens now.”
