Nottingham Forest sent clear City Ground instruction after redevelopment green light

by · NottinghamshireLive

It has been a long time coming, but Nottingham Forest finally have the green light for their City Ground redevelopment.

The Reds first announced their intention to revamp their stadium in 2019. Six years later, phase one of their plans now has full planning permission.

It means Forest can look ahead to knocking down and rebuilding the Peter Taylor Stand. The upgraded stand will have an additional 5,000 seats, doubling its capacity.

Beyond that, the club’s overall intention is to get the stadium capacity up from just short of 30,000 to 40,000. Owner Evangelos Marinakis has previously spoken of his dream for a 50,000-seater ground, but that will have to wait - for now.

At a Rushcliffe Borough Council planning committee meeting on Thursday evening, councillors unanimously approved the first phase of the Reds’ plans. Below is a look at how Forest fans reacted to the news on X.

@1865mmij: I'm gonna miss the original Peter Taylor stand. So many memories in A Block. #NFFC

@ianbrown10: That first MOK with the extra 5000 is going to be sooooo bloody loud. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.

@WS19Eaton: When this new stand does get built where does A-block go? Exactly same place? Need to avoid going like West Ham and keep our atmosphere. #nffc

@jethrofairley: One issue I have with the Peter Taylor stand redevelopment is that it’ll be superior to the Brian Clough stand. Seems odd to me, but I know the rest of the ground will follow suit in due course. #nffc

@Puds1970: I'm so glad the plans for the City Ground redevelopment has gone through. And before we get too critical of the process, let's not forget that common sense has eventually prevailed. However, to those who were against, given the benefits, I seriously question your motives.

@domthered: After over 6 years of stalemate, planning permission granted at last. How it was needed many years ago, but finally send in the cranes!

@Sharoncroker1: Fantastic news #NFFC. CG not some soulless bowl of a ground. It's our home by the Trent.

@Chris78901: Absolutely delighted. Get that boathouse sorted and get the diggers on site. This is a massive step for us as a club.

@Battlemuch4WW: Great news for the club & the wider city. The sooner it happens now the better. Fans on the season ticket waiting list will be counting the days! #NFFC

@PantherAS90: Great news!!! Get that stand built!

@NunoBalll: BUILD BABY, BUILD! #nffc
