Anthony Elanga 'close' to Newcastle agreement amid £55m Nottingham Forest transfer optimism

by · NottinghamshireLive

Newcastle United are said to have made an improved £55m transfer offer for Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga.

Newcastle have had their eye on the Reds ace for the past year.

The Magpies were rebuffed in their attempts to sign Elanga last summer, but have returned again.

A £45m bid from the St James’ Park outfit was rejected by Forest last week. On Tuesday, it then emerged Newcastle had ‘touched base’ again with an improved offer worth more than £50m.

And now transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims the Reds have received a £55m bid, with negotiations underway and Newcastle “pushing to get it done”.

Romano states Newcastle are “optimistic” of sealing a deal, with personal terms “close” to being agreed.

Elanga has already addressed the speculation about his future. He said earlier this summer while on duty for his country: “There is a lot of talk. I focus on what I can do and my focus today was on the match.

“In football there are always rumours. The most important thing is that I focus on what I can control.

“I guess there will always be scouts wherever I play. As long as I stay focused and do my best in the match, I just keep my focus and what I can control. That's what I can do on and off the field. I focus on the next day and action. That's what I can do.”
