Thomas Tuchel sent brutal message as England boss makes Nottingham Forest decision
by Sarah Clapson · NottinghamshireLiveNottingham Forest fans have reacted with incredulity at the absence of club representatives in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad.
The new Three Lions boss has not named one single Reds player among his group for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia. That is despite Nuno Espirito Santo’s side flying high in the Premier League table with Morgan Gibbs-White, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Elliot Anderson all having excellent seasons.
Tuchel has watched Forest in action in recent weeks, including being in attendance at the City Ground for last week’s FA Cup victory over Ipswich Town. With no Reds player called up, supporters have made their feelings on the England selection clear. Below is a look at what they have said on social media.
@DavidGBarker: Wow. No MGW is criminal. And CHO can count himself unlucky. #NFFC
@TrentsideTree: How can #nffc be third in the Premier League and still have no one seemingly suitable to play for #England squad? Madness.
@NFFC_EPL: Anderson & CHO have the right to feel unlucky. No doubt they’re better than players that are in there. No Morgan Gibbs-White though is an utter disgrace. In fact he doesn’t even just deserve to be in the squad. He should be starting for England. I’m utterly perplexed #NFFC
@ethanlamb01: All I’m going to say is, you think Gibbs-White & Anderson have been good up to now - just wait for the next couple of weeks. They will be playing with a vengeance, showing Tuchel what he’s missing by selecting 34-year-old Jordan Henderson over them.
@Battlemuch4WW: What a joke. We had 3 players in the mix for the squad, none of them picked. Englands loss is our gain. No chance of picking up injuries in a meaningless match. Fresh for our games immediately after the break. @Morgangibbs27 @Calteck10 & Eliot Anderson - go prove him wrong #NFFC
@Giddens25: Ridiculous! Then go show them what they are missing out on @Morgangibbs27 @Calteck10 #nffc
@DesBois999: Must be April the 1st just saw the England squad. What a joker Tuchal is! So funny. #nffc
@cakeyandcrispy: MGW, Anderson, CHO not in England squad is great news fur us. They get a decent rest ready for the run in.#NFFC
@Rob_Marron: #nffc least they get a much needed rest!! Hard to see how none have made it tho!
@maybebrayyy: Fella has been to like four #NFFC games but didn’t watch a single one

@jamestic_gamer: Tell me how Jordan Henderson, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Marcus Rashford get in the squad yet Callum Hudson odoi, Gibbs-white and ElliotAnderson cant get in? Clearly someone has seen different football #NFFC
@harryjoule: Aside from the fact that this squad is awful, it’s probably a good thing none of our most important players have been picked and inevitably pick up an injury for the run in #nffc
Gibbs-White made his England debut under interim boss Lee Carsley last year. Hudson-Odoi has three caps to his name but has not featured since 2019 and Anderson is yet to represent the senior side.
The trio will almost certainly be in the Forest starting line-up on Saturday when Nuno’s side are away to Ipswich Town (3pm kick-off) in their final Premier League game before the international break. In his Thursday lunchtime pre-match press conference, prior to the England squad being named, the Reds head coach said he had not spoken to Tuchel about any of his players.
“No, not yet. If he wants, I am free,” Nuno had said. “But I think it is for everybody to see. The national team coaches make a lot of observational games because they are looking at possible players for their squads. If Thomas has been here, it's because he is counting on our players.”
