Seattle Mariners acquire Taylor Ward in trade with Baltimore Orioles

The Seattle Mariners have acquired outfielder Taylor Ward from the Baltimore Orioles in a trade aimed at improving their offence against left-handed pitching.

The Orioles will receive right-handed reliever Alex Hoppe and minor league pitchers Harrison Kreiling and Brock Moore in return.

Ward, who will become a free agent at the end of the season, arrives in Seattle after posting a .383 on-base percentage and leading the American League with 87 walks.

"We are excited to add Taylor to our lineup," Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said.

"He has proven to be a consistent performer that is among the very best in the league at getting on base. We are thrilled to be adding a player of his caliber."

The 32-year-old has hit seven home runs this season after combining for 61 across the 2024 and 2025 campaigns with the Los Angeles Angels.

Over nine MLB seasons, Ward owns a .247 batting average with 120 home runs and 375 RBIs.

Seattle enters the week with a 55-58 record, sitting three games behind the American League West leaders and two games outside the final wild-card spot as the club looks to strengthen its playoff hopes.
