Canadian NFL star Matthew Bergeron signs four-year Falcons extension

Canadian offensive lineman Matthew Bergeron has signed a contract extension with the Atlanta Falcons, securing his future with the NFL club.

The Falcons announced the extension on Saturday, while NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo reported that the new agreement is worth $96 million over four years.

According to the report, the deal carries an average annual value of $24 million, placing Bergeron among the 15 highest-paid offensive linemen in the NFL based on yearly salary.

The 25-year-old, who is from Victoriaville, Quebec, was selected by Atlanta with the 38th overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Before entering the NFL, Bergeron was ranked as the top Canadian prospect ahead of the 2023 CFL Draft, although he was not selected.

Since joining the Falcons, Bergeron has become an important part of the team's offensive line and has established himself as one of Canada's leading players in the NFL.

The reported extension reflects Atlanta's long-term commitment to the Canadian lineman as the club looks to strengthen its roster for the coming seasons.
