Delhi Capitals Qualification Scenarios: How ahead is Axar Patel’s DC in race to IPL 2025 playoffs?
by Naman Jain · Inside Sport IndiaCatch the IPL 2025 playoffs qualification scenario for the Delhi Capitals (DC). A new coaching staff with new captain, Axar Patel – How strong are DC's chances?
The Delhi Capitals (DC) had a mightily successful Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. This is despite they had a complete revamp of not only their players’ roster but also massive turbulence in the coaching setup as well. Regardless, everything has bode well for the Capitals. Bringing in the likes of KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc, and Faf du Plessis have done superbly. However, unsung heroes like Vipraj Nigam, Abhishek Porel, and Ashutosh Sharma have contributed equally. But will their 3-year wait for IPL qualification end soon? Let’s find out below.
Delhi Capitals at IPL 2025: Road so far
Under new captain Axar Patel, DC made a remarkable start to their IPL 2025 campaign. They began with an epic 1-run win over LSG followed by dominating performances over SRH, CSK and RCB. The Capitals’ first loss of the season came at home when a resurgent Mumbai Indians (MI) beat them with a 12-run win. Fascinatingly, a Super Over win over RR next.
However, now, Delhi have recorded two defeats in their last three games. This has halted their season a little bit. Despite this, they are in firm contention to be in the top four. If some other results go in their way, that is, GT and RCB lose some games, Delhi might even finish in top two.
Delhi’s qualification almost certain?
As of April 28, the Delhi Capitals are among the teams that have completed nine of their 14 group-stage matches. They sit with 12 points with a 6-3 win-loss record and are currently placed fourth on the IPL 2025 points table. While they lost against RCB, Delhi’s still in superb place.
Traditionally, 16 points is the benchmark for playoff qualification in the IPL. Delhi, currently on 12 points from nine matches, will need to win at least 2 of their remaining 5 matches to perhaps automatically qualify for the playoffs.

DC still have five matches left, which is a huge plus. And the good news is that they face one of the current bottom-four teams: SRH.
The bigger challenges will be GT, PBKS and MI, three teams presently in the top half. Beating one or two of them is key. However, considering DC have won six of their nine games, you’d expect them to close out the campaign greatly as well They need at least two wins to have 16 points on the table, a tally that would ease the nerves.
