After playing a sweep off Simon Harmer, Shubman Gill had hurt his neck and had to walk off the field.

Shubman Gill is itching to be part of the India vs South Africa 2nd Test. At the moment, the India Test captain is recovering from a neck injury, which he sustained on November 15 at the Eden Gardens. Subsequently, Gill checked into the hospital, and after the Kolkata Test ended, he was discharged.

BCCI is monitoring Shubman Gill

Gill has been with Team India for the last couple of days and has travelled to Guwahati. Earlier in the day, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provided an essential fitness update, stating that Gill is being monitored and no decision regarding his participation in the second Test has been taken.

“Team India captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test against South Africa and was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of the day’s play. He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on 19th November, 2025. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team, and a decision on his participation in the 2nd Test will be taken accordingly,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Gill wants to train on November 20

While BCCI might wish to rest Gill as a precaution, he himself wishes to play. According to PTI, the India Test captain will attempt to train for the very first time since his neck injury on November 20 and 21 at the Barsapara Stadium.

Considering he was named captain in May, Gill feels responsible for wins and losses. His injury was one of the factors behind India’s defeat in Kolkata, and he might want to play in Guwahati to ensure India isn’t whitewashed at home for the second time in the span of 12 months.
