Jasprit Bumrah bags five-wicket haul at Lord’s to equal Ravindra Jadeja for most Test fifers

With his second fifer in this IND vs ENG Test series and first at Lord's, Jasprit Bumrah bagged his 15th Test fifer.

No matter how batting-friendly the pitch is, one can’t keep Jasprit Bumrah silent. India’s premier pacer has bagged his 15th Test fifer with four wickets on Day 2 of the IND vs ENG Lord’s Test. As Bumrah got his name on the Lord’s honours board for the first time, he equalled his India teammate Ravindra Jadeja for the most fifers for India in Tests. He claimed Joe Root for the 15th time across formats while dismissing Ben Stokes for the fifth time. Chris Woakes fell for a golden duck. Bumrah completed his fifer with the wicket of former Mumbai Indians teammate Jofra Archer in the second session to return with figures of 5/74.

Even though Bumrah equalled Jadeja, both have contrasting records. This was Bumrah’s 13th five-wicket haul in Tests outside India, with just two fifers coming at his home. Jadeja has the opposite. The spin-all-rounder has claimed 13 five-wicket hauls in India, and only two of them have come in away Tests.

Most Test wickets by Indians in England

The fifer also helped Bumrah surge past Kapil Dev to bag the most Test wickets in England. He is only behind Ishant Sharma, who bagged 48 wickets in 14 matches. Bumrah has 47 wickets, and he is all set to surpass Ishant Sharma in the IND vs ENG Lord’s Test. In England, Bumrah has four five-wicket hauls, averaging 25.43.

Most five-wicket hauls in Tests for India

Ravichandran Ashwin leads the charts with 37 five-wicket hauls for India. Among pacers, Kapil Dev has bagged 23 five-wicket hauls in Tests. Jasprit Bumrah is only the second Indian pacer to bag 15 fifers in Tests. But Bumrah surpassed Kapil Dev with 13 Test fifers outside India. Kapil Dev had 12.

Indian bowlers to claim Test fifer at Lord’s

As many as 15 Indians have claimed Test fifers at the Lord’s. Mohammad Nissar became the first Indian bowler to bag a five-wicket haul at the Lord’s back in 1932. Ishant Sharma with 7/74 in 2014 had the best bowling figure. Now, Jasprit Bumrah joins the list.
