WPL 2025: UP Warriorz are slated to play their first match against Gujarat Giants on Feb 16.

In a major blow to UP Warriorz, their Aussie skipper Alyssa Healy has opted out of the WPL 2025, with less than two weeks remaining in the tournament. The current national side captain confirmed on Saturday, after the completion of the Women’s Ashes, that she would not be participating in the WPL this year.

Skipper Alyssa Healy Injured

That means UP team will have to come up with a new skipper. That is because Healy has been struggling with a fair share of injuries in the last couple of months. Even in the T20 World Cup, she missed some matches due to a foot injury, and then a knee injury impacted her presence in the WBBL.

Alyssa Healy went on to clarify that her body needed rest. “Unfortunately for me, I’ve got a couple of months feet up. I’m pretty bummed by that, but at the same time elated to have a little bit of downtime and try and get my body right. But I’m looking forward to sticking my feet in an ice bucket,” Healy said.

UP Warriorz in Trouble

“It’s been a really frustrating probably 18 months for me … you get yourself right, back playing, and something else goes wrong. (I’m) going to have a look at a couple of things and how I can be better, maybe a bit more disciplined in some areas, and make sure I’m right to go in particular for that ODI World Cup,” Healy added.

Meanwhile, in her absence, Uma Chetry could be the new keeper, while India all-rounder Deepti Sharma has a good chance of becoming the skipper. There is also an option of Australia Tahila McGrath.
