Virat Kohli will score big vs PBKS, Chinnaswamy pitch & Punjab bowler’s poor record to amplify problems

by · Inside Sport India

RCB is yet to win a match at home in IPL 2025, and Virat Kohli's superior record vs PBKS could just change things around for the team.

The best batter in the world, Virat Kohli is a statistician’s delight. Every time he steps on to the crease, there is a chance of new records being created, or the older ones being broken. The 36-year-old goes ballistic when playing at home — the Chinnaswamy Stadium. And the time has once again come for Virat to show, who the real boss is, as RCB take on PBKS on Friday.

Virat Kohli’s Superior Record vs PBKS

Let us just all concede, Virat Kohli is going to score big against Shreyas Iyer’s Punjab Kings. Ask why? For starters, in IPL 2025, he has been in tremendous form, scoring 248 in six matches, with three fifties to his name, at an average of 62, and a strike-rate of 143. Then, he of course facies batting against PBKS.

In the 32 matches against this team, he has scored 1030 runs at an average of 35, with 1 hundred and 5 fifties. His record improves considerably when he faces Punjab at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. In the 12 matches, he has scored 441 runs at an average of 40, and a strike-rate of 136. His 113 had come in a home game only, back in 2016. And apart from that, he has two fifties too.

Arshdeep Singh & Yuzi Not Great Against King

As for PBKS, their problems do not end there. Their current roster has players, who don’t have a great record against Virat. Their bowling spearhead Arshdeep Singh has ordinary numbers vs Virat Kohli. In 7 innings, the batter has scored 79 runs in 41 deliveries. That makes it a strike-rate of 192, and has only been dismissed once.

Against former teammate Yuzvendra Chahal, he has scored 28 runs in four innings and again, has been dismissed only once. Versus Marcus Stoinis, in three innings he has 15 runs, in 10 deliveries, and has never been dismissed by the Aussie. There is a certain Glenn Maxwell too, and he too hasn’t posed any threat to the Indian. In 11 deliveries, he has given 14 runs, and never picked up his wicket.

Marco Jansen Only Hope

Having said that, the only bowler who could trouble Virat is, South Africa’s left-arm pacer Marco Jansen. In the two innings, the batter has scored 11 runs in eight deliveries, and has been dismissed once too. Out of those 11, eight have come in boundaries. So, it’s clear.. if PBKS want to see his back early, they need to ensure that Jansen bowls at him.
