Asia Cup trophy to come to India soon? BCCI, PCB meet to resolve issues

by · Inside Sport India

The entire issue between BCCI and PCB had surfaced, when Mohsin Naqvi refused to give the Asia Cup trophy to Team India.

It seems that the Asia Cup trophy row is finally coming to an end — between the old foes, BCCI and the PCB. On Saturday, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the entire issue has been resolved with Mohsin Naqvi. The entire discussion was done on the sidelines of the ICC meeting in Dubai, and now the matter is near resolution.

BCCI-PCB feud to end?

“The ice has been broken,” Saikia told Sportstar. “In both the informal and formal board meetings, I was present, and the PCB chairperson, Mr. Naqvi, was also there. But during the formal meeting, this matter was not on the agenda. However, the ICC facilitated a separate meeting between the PCB chief and myself in the presence of a senior ICC official,” Saikia said.

He further added that a solution will be worked out soon. “It was a positive step to begin the negotiation process. Both sides participated cordially in the meeting held on the sidelines of the board meeting. I am sure that both sides will work out a solution to this issue at the earliest possible time…”

Asia Cup trophy to come to India

The entire issue had surfaced when the Indian team had refused to shake hands with the PCB chief after winning the Asia Cup; in fact they had not taken the trophy from Naqvi. Instead the PCB chief took away the trophy, and made sure the Indian team did not get it.

Naqvi had even asked the Indian team, or the officials to collect the trophy from him from Dubai. He even insisted on meeting the Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav personally, at one point of time.
