Rain didn't bother in the first innings, but after just 1 over was delivered in the second innings, the weather disrupted play at the Eden Gardens.

The weather in Kolkata has taken the 44th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, hostage. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had just started the 202-run chase against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Eden Gardens when rain arrived out of nowhere.

Rain arrives at Eden Gardens

Within minutes, the ground staff had to cover the pitch. The entire ground was covered to ensure if and when the rain stops, we can resume the KKR vs PBKS match as soon as possible. It isn’t just rain, but strong winds are flowing at the Eden Gardens as well.

What is the cutoff time for a 5-over match?

To produce a result, both teams need to play 5 overs each. Now since PBKS have played their full quota of overs and KKR have batted for 1 over as well. This means that we don’t need much play. But that is if we can resume in time. If the match doesn’t start by 11:44 PM IST, it’ll be called off.

What will be KKR’s target in a 5-over match?

If the match were to resume and only 4 more overs could be bowled by PBKS bowlers, KKR would need to score 61 runs. As they have scored 7 runs already, the equation would be 54 runs needed in 4 overs (24 balls).
