Harry Brook’s replacement found? Dasun Shanaka trains with Delhi Capitals players before IPL 2025
by Ansh Athani · Inside Sport IndiaDasun Shanaka's last appearance in the IPL came in the 2023 season, when he played for the Gujarat Titans.
Have Delhi Capitals (DC) found Harry Brook’s replacement for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season? The Englishman had pulled out of the tournament last week to prioritise playing for his country. This had left DC puzzled. Of the seven overseas players they bought at the mega auction, one wouldn’t even be available to play.
Has Dasun Shanaka joined Delhi Capitals?
Former Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka has been training with DC players like T Natarajan and Dushmantha Chameera just three days before the IPL 2025 season starts.
Shanaka has played for the Dubai Capitals since 2023, another franchise owned by the JSW and GMR Groups. He had an incredible 2025 ILT20 season, where he struck at 202 and won the title with them.
According to Sri Lanka Mirror, DC have already signed Shanaka as Brook’s replacement. He’s already training with the franchise in Vishakhapatnam, and the official announcement will come out soon.
Shanaka is an experienced franchise player and has played in the IPL before with Gujarat Titans. He’s had stints in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Major League Cricket (MLC), and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as well.
Although Shanaka is an all-rounder, he didn’t bowl in the 2025 ILT20. Considering this, he will be a like-for-like replacement for Brook, who is also a middle-lower batter.
